A short, aging fellow plays the passionate lover and thrills his audience. Man, I love opera.

I was lucky enough being older to hear him in recital in Chicago, early 1960′s his farewell he sounded much like this. Beautiful Lyric tenor. His voice had a sweet sound similar in the middle to Gigli. He was wonderful and yes in Una Furtiva aria and the Cherry duet with his sop. wife.

This is why man was given a voice.

He is the very best of all Fritzes from the opera L’amico Fritz of Pietro Mascagni.
    The succeeder of Schipa.

Let us love and enjoy the greatness of this man and the wonder of this beautiful aria. We should always respect the wonder of the human voice.

  9. wepopalot says:

WOW!… now that is a beautiful voice.

This, folks, is what lyric tenors are supposed to sound like. I heard Tagliavini years go, in a large hall, full of people, and he came across perfectly clearly and I could understand every word. Most importantly, it was beautiful.–the kind of singing you could listen to all night long. The audience adored him. Why, oh why, oh why, don’t comtemporary voice teachers and impressarios GET IT?! Sigh………….

que nostalgia de como cantaban los buenos… luego se tienen que leer tonterias del jose cura de turno y otros… maestro tagliavini

  15. compadrecerro says:

Good point perolsen1958, there are no singers like those belcanto masters anymore. I think larger theatres and bigger and louder orchestras could be part of this problem, don´t you think ?

  20. Merryjest says:

Ponselle! Rosa recorded the most beautiful and seamless version of Massenet’s “Elegie” that I have ever heard. What an amazing woman!I am a tenor too- I’m 29 and a tenore di grazia.

  21. Giovannifabuloso says:

You are smart to listen to them. They are indeed that masters, I am a Tenor and I have always listened to the great ones from the past like Gigli, Schipa, Caruso, and Bjorling. There are no singers of this caliber today. They set the standards. Even though she is a soprano you should also listen to Rosa Ponselle. She is the greatest example of a seamless scale.

  22. elfomusic62 says:

Secondo me è sempre belcanto quando si applicano le regole esatte!.Quindi anche il repertorio verista(come accadeva nel passato ) può essere cantato ,anzi dovrebbe essere comunque cantato ,secondo i principi belcantistici.

  23. hundesusi says:

This aria is very beautiful. Tagliavini is my favorite tenor. Thank you for a great video.

  24. Merryjest says:

I am a young singer… believe me, I worship them. Tagliavini, Schipa, Kraus, Gigli, the masters.

  25. Corenero says:

    Beatiful interpretation !
By the way, this is verismo, not bel canto.
