Exploring MythTV and mediaMVP

Posted on 25 June 2010 by Abidoon

MythTV is an open source digital video recording package, similar to TiVo. First is a solid intro to what MythTV can do. After that, I … all » introduce the mediaMVP set top box and how it can be used to expand MythTV to every TV in the house for not to much doough-ray-me.

@kennelm Yes, but this video was created in 2006 when many of us didn’t care about HD. Plus it was under $100.

  2. kennelm says:

One downside is mediaMVP will not handle HD.

  5. W00Pg says:

Why not use it on an xbox 360? I don’t see why you would, though.

Thanks for the video! I just started my project with an unused PC I have.

There are a few thing I don’t understand yet about MythTV and MediaMVP working together. I’ll find that out.

    one questions.
Mythbuntu will run in my old machine. I’ll need a frontend in another machine to be able to see the videos and pics, etc?
can the frontend be on Windows and or linux?
    thank you in advance!

Hey PatWhyte, I know it’s been a while since you posted it, I just started my project and picked Mythbuntu as well.
I’d like to know if you managed to set your MythTV and how is your project going at this point!!

    thanks in advance!

  17. matt123head says:

  18. pjremy says:

How about the MediaMVP-HD? That unit supports 1080p palyback of many file types. Will mythtv run on it? If it does then I am totally in!!!

  19. scotnery says:

Great. Thanks for getting me started and familiar with myth really quickly. You worked hard on this and it’s very clear.

  20. ninet9shifty says:

    who is we? O.o

  21. VersatileNinja says:

yes, but you won’t be able to record tv with the modded xbox.

  22. brpadington says:

They have a wireless version that is 50 bucks more.

  23. brpadington says:

You can do this with an original xbox thats modded. Thats a lot cheaper and more flexible than the mvp.

  24. elsosome says:

I’m sorry to nit-pic, but Hauppauge is pronounced “ha-pog” (it’s Native American). It’s a town in New York (Long Island) where the company that makes those devices is located.
I’m not from there, I’m from Port Jeff Sta. but my dad use to work in Hauppauge
    (at MetLife).

  26. DarkAvatar1313 says:

so to use mediaMVP’s you’ll need to run ethernet cable through out your house or is there someway to use a wireless router
