As Linux is GPL it means anything Redhat develope must be released as source code which other people can then compile which is where groups like Cent OS come from. CentOS is a fairly stable OS, If your just stuffing around then give it a shot. it is free to download and i probably would not pay more than $ 10 for a DVD. RedHat Linux is free software because of the GPL, However the Red Hat charges a service fee for providing support and a download of the product.
