Ubuntu Linux Software Sources PPAs & Force Packages down How-to Tutorial Sreencast
Posted on 28 July 2010 by Abidoon
Advanced Sreencast Tutorial on how-to use Synaptic and manage the Software Sources in Ubuntu Linux. I show you how to find and add 3rd Party PPA’s Software Sources and also how to Force Packages to downgrade to try to avoid regression bugs with newer versions. This is a follow up to my previous Screencast on Synaptic. This tutorial is applicable to Ubuntu Linux 9.04, 9.10, 10.04, 10.10 and all derivative OS’s. Video Recorded with RecordMyDeskop and Edited with Kdenlive in Ubuntu Linux 10.10 64bit. I tired to fix the bug with RecordMyDeskop but it does not solve the sound crashing issues. Original video production by the www.OSGUI.com Tech Show.

@OSGUIShow Unfortunately I’m not into that whole video making thing. I don’t even own a webcam. And if I’d do that, nearly no one would stumble upon this video. Whereas your videos reach far more people, your subscribers and random ppl by autogenerated links in the sidebar. I don’t know how big the chance for videos of a newcomer is to appear there, but for yours it’s certainly greater So, if you are interested, I’d do an overhaul. and give that to you.
well done! a no nonsense tutorial to adding ppa. great! keep it going. still wondering why u have stuck to KDE even after all the GNOME hype
i have an idea… being that you record your show while your doing the screenvid wouldn’t it be easier to have a show plan… then record the clicking and typing in one video then add the 2nd video of explaining it then add the two together… that way you may not suffer the audio crashes and you can cut and paste a little more effectively?
@itachisxeyes He’s using recordMyDesktop because xvidcap doesn’t work nomore =P
I am careful when adding PPA’s, I add only ones I know what they do =P Some have extra packages that upgrade other software already installed and you’re like wtf lol Anyway I usually run sudo apt-get update and then goto Synaptic to check for updates.
Great video
@TheSupersurgical cool cheers
@itachisxeyes yep thats all true

You are doing a good job TIM!.
Good Vid!
Cheers
Tim I’m glad you going to do Linux Tutorials using Kdenlive it would defeat the purpose of promoting Linux tutorials if you used Windows Movie Maker. O.K Jordan From This week in Linux said Theres a New Linux Movie maker Program called V.L.M.C coming out that is sort of like Kdenlive but easier to use.
Thanks for good tutorial.
Good tutorial Tim. This kind of video tutorial always helps people out.
