What distribution of Linux has the best driver support?

Posted on 06 July 2010 by Abidoon

I’ve downloaded some distros in the past only to find myself unable to really use Linux for anything worthwhile, so I’d like to avoid that if possible.

    I would say version 8.04

Linux does not have very good support of the very latest hardware. The best support is for hardware a few years old.
You might do better by listing your hardware and finding out which, or if, any linux distro supports your various components.
THe first link tries to sort out hardware compatibility by distro. The second will lookup a piece of harware and list how it is known to work with various distros.
    Good luck

It all depends on which Linux distros. you have been working with.

If you look at Ubuntu or Linux Mint support is already vast. Here are some Ubuntu Hardware Community links that also apply to Linux Mint.

don’t know why you need driver support for linux..

almost every piece of equipment I add to my system..when on linux (ubuntu) it almost always detects it automatically

you can find support over linux forums..lot of people and activity there..

I always found drivers for any hardware device I needed on ubuntu.

Ubuntu 8.10 or higher (9.04 when it’s out) has great hardware support. Both 8.10 and 9.04 found my restricted drivers for wireless and my video card right away.
