Percona XtraBackup 1.6 for Windows “try me” edition

Previously we had XtraBackup Windows binaries for 1.0 and 1.2 releases, and they were based on Cygwin compilation of MySQL.

After MySQL 5.5 moved to CMake, and cygwin compilation is not supported anymore, it took some efforts for us to come up with native Windows builds, but they are there already. We consider them “alpha” quality, as there some know limitations,
but you should be able to make backup and restore from it. If you are interested in Windows backup I encourage you to give it a try and report your experience. Binaries are available there http://www.percona.com/downloads/XtraBackup/XtraBackup-1.6/Windows-alpha/

Monty Taylor: Jenkins slave running Windows

When you rely on something like Jenkins to help manage your project, if you don’t have a feature regularly tested in it, that feature often bitrots pretty quickly. This was the case for our Windows compile of libdrizzle. It worked months ago, but then some folks tried it recently and, well – not so much with the working. That meant I had to do three things this weekend:

Get the Windows machine that was sitting at my old office powered off and actually plug it in in my new office
Fix the build
Connect that machine to Jenkins

I’m happy to report all three are done, and we now have a Jenkins slave building libdrizzle on every push. I believe I should also be able to build the client programs, so I’ll add them soon – and then it’s only a few steps away from having Jenkins produce an msi or something that people can download.

In case you’re wondering, we are currently aiming for Windows7/Windows 2008 Server.

Also, now that we have the Jenkins slave, I can get the same thing done for libmemcached.

I see historically how bad it was.
It was a nested web of dependency.
for sombody who ports drizzledump to windows had to make following list of files compile properly on windows.

modifing all files and linking is a hell lot of donkey work.

See the current status:
No more circus on dependancy web of code. Just a straight compilation and Linking of client\drizzledump*.cc files.

So going forward, i am expecting LCOV reporting lots of code unused and our captains keep pressing Shift+Del on more files.

New Standard C++ code and Boost done another magic also.
no need to stuff in any windows specific code (#ifdef blocks).
Not even a single charachter modification is requied to build it under windows!!

continuación… ¿que es dual boot? se le llama a la capacidad de una computadora para poder tener e iniciar más de un sistema operativo en un mismo disco duro ———— Cosas que asumo 1-que ya tienen instalado Windows 7 (xp o vista) 2-que ya descargaron el .ISO de ubuntu 9.10 de: www.ubuntu.com ———— PASOS: 5-una vez que la computadora reinicia volveremos a reiniciarla y entraremos al BIOS (presionando f2 mientras reinicia) y cambiares el orden del booteo para que pueda comenzar del CD-ROM/DVD 6-reinician la computadora una vez mas (con el disco de ubuntu dentro del lector) lo cual provocara que la computadora inicie desde el disco de Linux 7-seleccionen idioma y presionen que quiere probar ubuntu sin alterar el equipo 8-una vez dentro abriremos la opcion INSTALAR ubuntu 9.10 9-seleccionen el idioma, despues seleccionen donde se encuentran y la distribucion del teclado 10-en la siguiente ventana, seleccionen “especificar particiones manualmente(avanzado) 11-le dan click derecho a la particion sin formato que crearon para Ubuntu y eligen CAMBIAR, en la opcion utilizar como: seleccionaremos sistemas de ficheros ext4 transaccional, seleccionen la casilla de formatear la particion y en punto de montaje eligen / (que es el root) 12-al espacio que dejamos libre, le damos click derecho y despues en AÑADIR; el tamaño e la particion realmente depende cuanta memoria RAM fisica tienen, si tienen 2gb o menos, creenla de 2 gb, si tienen mas de 3 gb con 1 gb es suficiente.la …
